The ATR 42 is a twin-engine turboprop (propeller-driven) regional airliner designed and manufactured by the European aircraft maker ATR (a joint venture between Airbus and the Italian company Leonardo). Its name 42 comes from its initial passenger capacity, though modern versions can carry up to 50 passengers depending on the configuration.

It is the ideal aircraft for short hops of one or two hours. While it may not be the fastest in the sky, it is one of the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly ways to connect regional communities.
