This model could serve as a plan for building your own dinky dinghy. It's a three in one boat insofar as it can be a rowboat, a motorboat or a sailboat. Using 6mm (1/4 inch) marine plywood and a suitable timber frame, this boat is light enough to place on a car's roof rack. The design will accommodate two lightweight adults on calm waters. Powered by an inboard 80cc 2-stroke 2.5kW (3.3HP) bicycle engine or a pair of sculling oars or a 2.9m² square-rig sail, this little dinghy will provide you with hours of fun. To save weight, a belt drive is used with a 2:1 reduction ratio. The square rig was chosen as being the easiest to make and set up, but other rigs will be more efficient. The blunt prow is also easiest to make when compared with other designs. Stainless steel guards under the chines will protect the hull from grounding damage. The retractable daggerboard will provide stability when sailing. The model does not include buoyancy tanks, but they could easily be added. The model's ropes and sail are very basic but everything else has been acurately modelled.
