It was one of the first mass-production cars. Construction of the first car was started in October and was completed by December, 1898. It was unveiled to the public in June 1899. Then on 27 August, Louis and his brother Marcel took part in the Amateur Drivers' Cup road race event from Paris to Trouville, finishing first and second. About 1200 cars of the Type A were produced.
