The human-headed winged bulls of Khorsabad in Assyria guarded the fortress of Sargon II, Hard Sharrukin, at the end of the 8th century B.C. They are now on display in the beautiful courtyard of Khorsabad created at the Louvre Museum to reconstruct part of the fortress of Sargon II.
