The Pansarvärnsgevär m/21 (often abbreviated as pvg m/21) was one of Sweden’s early attempts at fielding a dedicated anti-tank rifle during the interwar period. Designed to counter lightly armored vehicles, it fired a powerful, large-caliber round capable of penetrating the relatively thin armor common at the time. Like many early anti-tank rifles, it was long, heavy, and typically operated by a small crew rather than a single soldier. By the onset of World War II, however, rapid improvements in tank armor quickly reduced its effectiveness, limiting its practical use on the battlefield. Despite its short-lived relevance, the pvg m/21 represents an important step in the evolution of infantry anti-armor weapons and highlights the challenges militaries faced in keeping pace with advancing armored warfare technology.
