The Brøndby Military Rifle was an experimental self-loading rifle designed in the early 1930s by Norwegian engineer Fridtjof Brøndby, representing an ambitious attempt to modernize infantry weapons during the interwar period. The rifle featured a gas-operated system with a long-stroke piston, a locking mechanism using a vertically moving block, and an unusual open-bolt firing operation—more commonly associated with automatic weapons. It was magazine-fed and likely capable of both semi-automatic and fully automatic fire, reflecting advanced thinking for its time, though it remained somewhat bulky. A prototype was sent to the United Kingdom for military evaluation, but it was never adopted, and the design ultimately faded into obscurity despite its innovative engineering.
