This 3D model represents a reconstruction attempt of a historic Coptic Orthodox church, the Faras Cathedral located in northern Sudan or southern Egypt. Built in 707 CE, Faras Cathedral has no longer existed after getting submerged by Lake Nasser flooding in the 1970s. This model reaches a height of around 14 m from floor surface to the dome’s tip. It has three chapel rooms (northwest, northeast, & southwest) and a large aspe/bema meant for the altar. The altar design might follow the basic principles of Early Christian altars which can be found in many early-medieval European churches once part of Byzantine Empire’s domain.
My reference is a replica model now contained in Sudan National Museum. It is a very unique architectural feat, extremely scarce to find in the arid dessert of Sudan/Egypt, due to the combination of Early Byzantine Architecture (mostly the layout system) and Sudanese desert Architecture (mudbrick, stone, & wood materials).
This church model might be ideal for historical visualizations, architectural renders, VR/AR experiences, educational projects, heritage reconstructions, or even simply personal collections.Asset is entirely made native in SketchUp Pro 2018 (.skp file), transfered to Blender (ver 5.0) file, and later exported into GLB, OBJ, and FBX files. Tmage previews are rendered with V-Ray 3.6 (1920x1080 px).
