1/900th scale Arado Ar 196 Reconnaissance Floatplane model. Certain elements not to scale.

The Arado Ar 196 was a German shipboard reconnaissance floatplane built from 1938–1944 as the standard catapult aircraft of the Kriegsmarine, with 541 aircraft produced. They served from battleships, cruisers, coastal bases, and several foreign operators, but many were lost during wartime operations. Armament varied by model: early aircraft focused on reconnaissance, while later A-series versions typically carried two 20 mm MG FF wing cannons, one forward-firing 7.92 mm machine gun, a rear defensive machine gun (later twin MG 81Z guns), and could carry two 50 kg bombs.

This model is designed and tested at 1/900th scale, but up-scaling and down-scaling are possible. Since the model is optimized for 1/900th scale, it is not ideal to print larger versions due to a lack of detail. The model has been enlarged along the vertical axis to allow for better printing and accentuation of detail. The model has also been given thicker elements for strength. The wingspan and overall length are to scale.
