DESCRIPTION

1/900th scale PBM Mariner flying boat model. Certain elements not to scale.

The Martin PBM Mariner was an American patrol flying boat built from 1940–1949, with 1,235–1,285 aircraft produced depending on whether prototypes and conversions are counted. The type served through World War II and the Korean War in many patrol, rescue, transport, and anti-submarine roles. Armament varied substantially by variant: early PBM-1s carried five .50 caliber machine guns, while later PBM-3D and PBM-5 patrol versions mounted up to eight .50 caliber guns and could carry bombs, depth charges, mines, or torpedoes; specialized PBM-3S and PBM-5S anti-submarine versions reduced gun armament to increase range, while PBM-3R transports were unarmed.

This model is designed and tested at 1/900th scale, but up-scaling and down-scaling are possible. Since the model is optimized for 1/900th scale, it is not ideal to print larger versions due to a lack of detail. The model has been enlarged along the z axis to allow for better printing and accentuation of detail. The model has also been given thicker elements for strength. The wingspan and overall length are to scale.
