This is a wall-mounted 35mm film cassette (can) opener. The screws of the wall mount help prevent the model from splitting along the layer lines. The act of removing the film end cap puts a lot of force on the model, especially in the direction of the weaker layer bonds.
It uses two (2) slightly modified US pennies as the hard points to pry off the end cap on a 35mm film canister.
It has an option for magnet mounted behind the unit that keeps the removed cap from clattering to the floor.
There is also an option for a glow-in-the dark inlay to help find the opener in the dark. I know it seems a bit counter-intuitive to make something that glows in a darkroom that supposed to be dark. The glow-in-the dark material that I have is so dim I do not believe it can expose the uncovered film and it has not been an issue for myself, but you can always exclude it.
The pennies are inserted into the model midway through the build, so you will need to include a pause into your print at the appropriate spot.
See the images to see what needs to be done to the pennies to increase its contact with your film canister. A Dremel tool or a half-round hand file and about 5 minutes should accomplish the modification easily. Use a film canister as a guide when you are filing the notch.
Have a great day and happy building,
Tom
