Please make the toggle of the Likes button apparent!

Discussion started by bsperan

These days, having some sort of [Likes] or [upvote] button or feature is practically synonymous with social media platforms. It is also rather common on eCommerce sites - shops for everything from clothes, electronics, software, books, 3d models and game assets. (These sites often have either a like button or a 5 star rating system.) In almost every case that I've seen, this feature is implemented in such a way that the user can tell at a glance whether or not they've clicked that button - whether it's been toggled into the liked/upvoted position, or not.

In my browser, at least (Firefox), I am unable to tell whether I have the [Likes] button toggled into a Like or not. As a consequence, on more than one occasion, I've clicked on the [Likes] button to give a like to something... only to discover that I had liked it previously, which just un-toggles my previous like away.

Suggestion: Please, consider changing the [Likes] button so it becomes apparent to the user whether or not it has already been toggled into a like. On most websites, this is made apparent by changing the color of the button. In the case of a [heart-shaped like button], it would be nice if it was changed from black to red to indicate the liked state.
