Designer Rank not updating.

Discussion started by CleanCraft3D

Hi, I'm sure where I should be asking this, but I'm having an issue with my account. My designers rank has stayed the same for a long time even though it should be going down as my reputation has gone up a lot lately. I went through the designers list and found that my rank should be around 500 -600, but it still says #3961 next to it.

Currently it is on page 56. You can see what I mean: https://www.cgtrader.com/designers?page=56

Would someone be able to look into this and fix it for me so it will update again? I would like to be able to track my rank without having to go through dozens of pages.

Thank you.

Same problem, stuck at #3380, but it should be something like 2000.
I asked for explanations via email, but the answer has been that just increasing reputation score, you will reach a better designer rank( thing that i knew yet) and not to get worried, because the designer rank is rarely used by the customers to buy products, and this last part of the message, ade me a little angry. But if you have the same issue i suppose that there's a problem with the website.

At least it's not just me. Hopefully some of the developers find this post and can address the issue. I did see some talk about site maintenance going on, so it's possible they are working on it.

Is anyone else having this problem? Looking at the designer list, it seems a lot of ranks might not be updating properly.

The designer rank would have been interesting if it was based on sales and product rating (by customers) , but it is based on the reputation score which is calculated with completely arbitrary factor, such as the number of "like" or comment or reply on comment etc etc.
So (according to me) a customers will definitely ignore rank, so the interest is very limited.
Focus on the quality of your model is do not worry about rank :)

As far as I can tell the reputation score do get affected by sales, so if your sales is lower relative to others then those others get higher in rank more rapidly. But what @a_pilch is pointing at is the fact that his label does not reflect his position in the list, there seems to be a bug preventing the number on the label from updating. So he is indeed currently at position 540 but with label reading 3961, so on his dashboard he cannot see his true position and thus needs to go into the list to find out his real position. Position indeed is pointless for effecting sales but one could have a degree of measure for his own efforts towards growing relatively compared to the rest, so it could have some psychological effects on part of the designers.

My designer rank has remained static as well.

I agree that it probably has little to no bearing on a customer's decision to buy your products. But I wonder if designer rank has any influence on your position within search results. If so, that could affect your visibility to customers, which would have an impact on sales.

If indeed ranking affects the visibility of the product, I would better understand @a_pilch's concern. This requires some explanation by the CGT staff

@Supercigale, i think that ranking/reputation indeed affects visibility of the products, but it's reputation points, not the rank number, that matters. And rep points are given correctly - no major bugs over there. On the other hand, rank number means nothing, it even doesn't show publicly anywhere but in designers list (nobody looks there). So, while bug with stuck rank numbers might be irritating, it is harmless in its nature.

Just an update on this topic. I opened a ticket on this issue and forwarded the developers to this discussion. The response I got was: "Your request (13076) has been received and is being reviewed by our support staff."

As @limonadinis mentioned, it's not the most pertinent of bug fixes, but I think it is safe to say that it is being looked into or at least on their to-do list.

This bug is about 6 month old. It was reported numerous times already in the forum and developers very well aware of it ;]

@limonadinis Hi, I've only been here about a month so it is new to me. It never hurts to ask again when you're not heard the first time. Developers and programmers are extremely busy. They can't be expected to fix every small bug right away. Maintaining a high quality website is no easy feat. We can, and should, do our part as members of the community and report issues when we see them arise. Whether a bug has been reported twice or 200 hundred times shouldn't matter. By most standards this is a seriously flaw in a website's design and something that should be fixed. Clearly, I can understand why long time sellers on CG Trader would discourage this bug from being fixed. New designers, however, would be grateful to have a reliable resource to track their progress and stay motivated to add new products. The feature is already there, why not make it work?

I'm not saying that bugs shouldn't be fixed or reported. Quite contrary. As you're new here, you may not know how things goes here - fixing bugs is pretty low on CGT team's priority list, however, introducing new bugs, stands much higher in that list :] Basically, everything that should dynamically update, is either stuck or updates at random. I understand that they are small team and focus more on bringing new features, rather than polishing existing ones, it's that just sometimes those forever standing bugs can become really annoying.
