Activating model thats sold

Discussion started by tonyf

Model price $4.99 Sold.
Now i get this email requiring to activate it for $2.00, thats almost half the price.

Let me ask you few questions.
#1 $2.00 is royalty fee ?
If so, would it be higher if model price was higher ?
#2 Being inactive, no one can buy right ?
If so, this i the WORST possible way to setup sales. I have no time to activate each sold model every time it gets sold. You might as well take the money automatically and be done with it.

I am very pissed :(
This whole activation garbage takes time and effort that could be avoided by simply charging royalty fee for each sale and keep models activated at all times.

OR:
Or there is no royalty fee for selling each model for the first time ?
Then ill just delete it and create it again.

Please someone clarify.

Thanks !

Hello Tony!

1 - if the models price is higher the activation fee is higher too. The more expensive your model is the more royalties you get. We want to have highest quality models so that is why activation fee for cheap models leaves you with almost half of the price :) Check here https://www.cgtrader.com/pages/sell-3d-models
2 - Yes after the sale the model is not seen in our library. But if someone is looking for a model on Google it will show up and the buyer will be able to buy it. and you would need to buy credits for that sale too.

When you have inactive model you can not delete it and if you do not buy any credits for a long time the next payment goes to our account and we give you credits. It is just a fee to keep this marketplace running.

Also if you buy more credits the model will be activated automatically so you do not need to activate it after every sale.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

The fix is actually easy mate. Add 10$ or so to your account and then you can sell like 5 models (depending on the price) before you have to deal with the whole activation thing again. Or you can add more and not deal with it for an entire year, like some do.

It's funny that the account can be locked after three weeks just because someone haven't thought about paying up enough for credits, what if the person is out travelling? The things seem to get more and more obnoxious as time proceeds. There should be a possibility to deactivate the whole account by the artist himself.

i agree with bogdan... selling low priced models is a waste, i was selling low priced at first, but i changed that now,

i has a model of a skull i sold for 35 dollars, then the reactivate cost were 5 dollars which i think were OK, so yes go change your prices.

I see. Fix is to put more money to cgtrader then they actually make you.
I've been here for few months now, sold 2 $4.99 models so far.
Turbosquid sold much more and they did not require any action taken other then specify when to send you your money.
They charge royalty automatically.

They way i see this setup is that you get people to pay you first, then IF they get lucky to sell they get their pay.
Your interest is YOU and YOUR wallet, not your seller or the buyer.

As for prices, i dont think my garbage worth any more then $4.99. If you think otherwise, hey let me know.

Tony,

Why so much hate?

If you sold only 2 models in few months - was it so difficult to login twice when your models were sold and to buy credits? You get money straight to you account and you know who bought it - you can contact your customers and they can contact you.

We are not that big as Turbosquid, just started few years ago and only few people working in our company. And as we offer highest royalty - trust me, the credits you pay doesnt make us millionaires. Not yet :)

If you think we do not care about our sellers and buyers why do you think we offer the highest royalties? Why do we help sellers uploading their models and make new features - put all our effort to keep this marketplace going?

If no one buys your "garbage" as you say - why dont you try to make your prices a bit higher? Usually buyers are looking for more expensive objects since cheap models can look unreliable. Just play with your prices and maybe something good will come out :)

Mate I do agree that Turbosquid is a larger market (so far) and thus you have better sales there but let's be honest here, in some cases at CGT by selling like 2 models you make as much money as selling 5 on TS.
I for one would not like the activation/fee system to change here because it is just way too good compared to TS. I honestly don't see why is it so much hassle for you to login here once in a while and activate your products for further sales, after all you do get 100% of the price you're asking for the model (compared with like 40% on TS). Is the problem the fact that you need to give some back in order to sell the model again ?
You will see in time that this system is good. You just need to create and sell a few more models (and as diverse as possible) and then your morale will get back up :)

p.s. and YES, some of your models can go for a higher price, there's nothing "garbage" about them. Just add some renders that are a bit better if you can and that's it.

i think fees it s not a problem, people just have to be intelligent;
Exemple ;
if you sell your model with 49 USD fees are 5 USD
if you sell your model with 50 USD fees are 10 USD
you must use your brain, and be creative.

I dont like the idea behind activation. Why not setup automatic charge.
In my head plan is simple.
Make models
Upload
Name their price
Setup payment options
get paid (sooner or later)

Didnt think i'd have to do deal with activations.

I do realize that turbosquid charges more, but they do it automatically and i don't have to waste my time activating anything. Thats fair for a lazy bum like me.
