My First Texture Paint: Feed Back Needed

Discussion started by RileyG

Hi everyone!

Recently, I had a comment on one of my models that it did not have enough texture work.

So, I immediately started acting on it (looking for tutorials, practicing painting, blah blah blah)

I'd like some feedback on my first texture painting project, the YAL-25 Rocket Launcher.

Feed Back Appreciated!

Well, you're coming along Denver. Are you working from photos and illustrations? Sometimes real-world examples can inspire texturing ideas, or the images, in part and sometimes in whole, can be applied to models as textures.

Here's a short tutorial on image-based modeling of a wooden crate.

You can see how the whole image of the crate is used to texture a plain cube.

You're off to a good start. What's most important is that you enjoy the challenges and the hard-won skills you're developing.

Thank you Tersta! I don't think parts of your feedback would suit me though, as I'm using Blender and Gimp for this. As for image based modelling, at the moment I'm trying to improve skills on hand painted texturing. I do however, think you're right on real world examples and I'll try to use that as a reference for my next project. Thank you for your feedback, appreciated as always.

Well, you're in luck, Denver. Here's a tut on using images for texturing in Blender. Blender 2.7 Tutorial #12 : Image Textures & Bump Maps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeWTTINkUG0 Good luck achieving your goals. :-)
