Competing with Asset Giants and Massive Megapacks as a Solo Creator: Is there still room for standalone game-ready props?

Discussion started by realscanlabs

Hey everyone,
I want to talk about a challenge that I’m sure many solo artists here face: the crushing competition from corporate asset giants and massive outsourcing studios.

Every day, the marketplace gets flooded with giant environment packs offering 50 or 100 items for just $15. For an indie developer on a budget, these corporate bundles look like a steal. As an individual creator focusing on photogrammetry, I try to focus on proper optimization. I don’t just dump a raw, messy 1-million-polygon scan into the store. I make sure it has a clean, optimized topology (quads/tris flow), a solid unwrap, and well-baked 4K PBR textures so it’s actually game-ready and won't crash the engine.

For context, here is my latest individual asset where I aimed for a solid balance between visual quality and performance:

It makes me wonder: is it still viable to survive as a solo artist selling standalone props against these corporate giants? Do buyers still care about proper technical optimization and standalone utility, or is the market now completely driven by sheer volume and quantity over quality?

What is your strategy for standing out? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
