Description

Bertrand du Guesclin, born around 1320 in Brittany, was one of the greatest French military leaders of the Middle Ages. Born into a noble but modest family, he distinguished himself through his courage and strategic skill during the Hundred Years' War. Loyal to King Charles V, he was appointed Constable of France (the supreme commander of the royal armies) in 1370. He led numerous victorious campaigns against the English, and his talent also took him to Castile, where he was appointed Constable by King Henry II. Nicknamed The Eagle of Brittany or The Black Dog of Brocéliande, du Guesclin remains an emblematic figure in French and Breton history.
