HISTORICAL NOTE: Class K submarines were a class of Royal Navy steam powered submarines designed in 1913. They were big and fast ships with the stamina and speed to operate with the battle fleet, they earned the nickname Kalamity class for being involved in many accidents. Of the 18 built, none were lost due to enemy action, but six sank in accidents. Only one faced an enemy ship, the K-7 hitting a submarine in the middle of the ship, although the torpedo did not explode, which was described as the typical K luck; The K-7 escaped retaliation by fleeing at high speed.
