Kung Lao is a fictional character from the Mortal Kombat series of fighting games. Introduced as a playable character in the second installment of the Mortal Kombat II series in 1993. He is a Shaolin monk and a member of the White Lotus Society who finds himself in the shadow of his ancestor, the Great Kung Lao. Kung Lao is Liu Kang's best friend and together they were the main characters in the Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks spin-off game. He gained considerable popularity and favorable critical reception, largely due to his famous hat, which doubles as a weapon.
