DESCRIPTION

This collection contains models for 3D printing of some of Pittsburgh's tallest and most iconic buildings from the pre-War era. The 4 buildings included are (from left to right in the images) the Cathedral of Learning, Gulf Building, Grant Building, and Koppers Tower. The 4 buildings included in this pack are in the same scale (1:1000 by default, however it is recommended to scale this down to 75%, which would be 1333:1). Please note that the Cathedral of Learning and the Gulf Building may be purchased individually.

The Cathedral of Learning stands 535ft (163m) tall far away from the dense city's dense downtown in the Oakland neighborhood. The building was designed by Charles Klauder and completed in 1936. The gothic style tower serves as a central building to the University of Pittsburgh. The Cathedral of Learning was the tallest educational building in the world at the time of its completion. Today, while several other buildings have risen higher (Moscow State University's main building and 2 skyscrapers in Tokyo), it remains the tallest educational building in the Western hemisphere. It is also the 2nd tallest gothic styled building in the world behind the Woolworth Building in New York City.

The Gulf Building is a 582ft (177m) tall skyscraper in the northern side of Pittsburgh's downtown. It was desined by Trowbridge & Livingston for the Gulf Oil Corporation. Completed in 1932, the art deco building was the tallest building in Pennsylvania for almost 40 years. The top of the building is colorfully lit up at night, with different colors and patterns symbolizing different weather forecasts. This soaring building was constructed on the site of the United States's first oil refinery.

The Grant Building is a 485ft (148m) skyscraper on the southwestern edge of downtown. It was designed by Henry Hornbostel in an art deco style and completed in 1929. For around 2 years, it stood as the tallest building in Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania. The building is famous for its radio antenna, which flashes in morse code to spell out the word P-I-T-T-S-B-U-R-G-H. In the 90 years since the tower was constructed, the obelisks that once adorned the building's rooflines have been removed. This model captures the original design of the architect with full ornamentation.

The Koppers Tower is 475ft (145m) tall and stands across the street from the Gulf Building. The building was comissioned by famous Pittsburgh businessman Andrew Mellon and designed by Chicago architecture firm Graham, Anderson, Probst & White. The art deco building was completed in 1929.

This collection contains an STL format file for each building as well as ZIP files containing 4 additional file formats (OBJ, 3DS, FBX, and DAE) for potential other uses. Please note these models were created solely for 3D printing, so they would likely require extensive reworking and texturing to be used in 3D modeling software for any other purposes.
