This modern bird box is a nesting solution for small garden birds like Blue , Great and Sparrows. It balances a minimalist aesthetic with technical features designed to improve fledgling survival and simplify year-round maintenance.

Hole sizes

The interior wall includes a built-in textured ladder to help young birds grip and climb to the exit hole when they are ready to fledge.

New: interchangeable entrance holes

To allow for species-specific targeting, the design now supports interchangeable entrance plates. This add-on allows you to swap sizes (e.g. 25mm for Blue or 28mm for Great ), depending on which birds you wish to host.

Careful drainage

The floor includes multiple drainage holes, positioned to allow any water to escape without exposing the fledglings to unwanted drafts.

French cleat mountThe box utilizes a French cleat system for the wall mount. Once the cleat is fixed to the wall, the box slides into place, making it easy to remove for inspection or cleaning.

Recommended print settings

• Material: PETG
• Layer height: 0.2mm
• Walls (perimiters): 3
• Infill density:
  • 5% on windows
  • 50%+ on wall mount
  • 10% on everything else
• Minimum build volume: 236mm x 201mm
• Print speed: For the best aesthetic finish and mechanical fit, slow down your outer wall speeds to 35–45 mm/s
• PETG cooling: Maximum 20–30%*

*This ensures sufficient detail for the ventilation holes while maintaining the strong layer adhesion required for an outdoor enclosure.

Printing tips

The wall mount will benefit from a higher infill density to avoid it splitting when screwing it in, but if you're comfortable with your slicer, add two cylindrical modifiers around the screw holes and increase the infill density there.

Assembly

Lid

The lid hinges will pop into the recesses in the wall part with only a small amount of force. Start with one side of each hinge, then the other.

The catches on the other end of the lid help keep the lid closed, so predators don't get to the fledglings.

Windows & plug

The windows and your choice of entrance hole plug simply screw into place. Make sure they're screwed on tight to avoid any clever predators getting in.

Floor

The floor slides into place. It should be fairly smooth with little resistance.

Installation

Position the wall mount on your wall where you want the nesting box to hang and mark the hole positions with a pen.

The wall mount is designed for 4mm screws, so drill for an appropriate wall plug (red plastic 6mm are perfect), and affix the wall mount with the angled edge facing up and sloping up away from the wall.

Sit the nesting box on the wall mount and it's good to go!
