FDM optimized and tested.
This is a precision 3D printable master model inspired by the legendary Frapp Tricky Tail — a large format twister/eel style soft plastic designed specifically for trophy predator fishing . This model is a replica inspired design that closely matches the distinctive elongated body with triangular cross-section and long, highly active tail that creates powerful pulsating vibrations at various retrieve speeds . It is intended for mold making purposes: use it to create silicone or RTV molds for small scale production of soft plastic lures.
The 180mm (7 inch) size represents the smaller version of the Tricky Tail series
Design Features:
Elongated eel style body profile with triangular cross section — narrow back widening toward the belly for stable swimming action
Long flexible tail with strong curvature and additional edge (cant) on the inner side, creating clear pulsating vibrations
Massive body volume in the lower section that stabilizes the lure even when fished weightless
Wide belly part that serves as a bumper against snags when fishing among vertical vegetation
The tail remains active during the fall phase — particularly effective for pelagic techniques and vertical jigging where many strikes occur on the drop
Pronounced body roll with pulsating tail movements as the signature action
Works effectively on classic jig heads, pelagic heads, large offset hooks, and stinger systems
Durable plastic geometry designed to withstand multiple aggressive pike attacks
Thick durable body construction that can handle treble hooks and stinger pins without tearing
Optimized surfaces for easy demolding
Important note: This is an inspired replica design based on the original Frapp Tricky Tail lure. Not an official FRAPP product. For personal use and small batch production only.
Recommended FDM Printing Settings
To achieve maximum dimensional accuracy and durability, we recommend the following FDM printing settings:
For models 5 inches and larger, use 10 bottom layers, 10 top layers, and 8–12 wall lines. For models larger than 6 inches, increase the wall count to 12–15 wall lines for maximum rigidity and strength.Layer height: 0.08 mm. This provides the highest surface quality and excellent detail reproduction.Always dry the filament before printing and properly tune retraction settings to minimize stringing.PLA is not recommended, as it has poor heat resistance and may deform under elevated temperatures.PETG is the recommended material for most applications. Higher-performance engineering filaments can also be used if required. The higher the quality of the filament, the better the dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and overall print quality. For best results, we recommend using premium filaments from reputable manufacturers. All molds feature a standard 16 mm injector port diameter, which is compatible with approximately 99% of silicone bait injectors currently in use.
