Classic cars deserve attention and precision — especially when it comes to a legend like the Mercedes SL R129.

One of our clients contacted us with a specific issue: a missing left front bumper tow hook cover. These parts are notoriously hard to find, particularly when they belong to such a specific model.

The client provided the original right-side cover, which we used as a template. After a detailed 3D scan, we created a CAD file and carefully validated all mounting tabs and clips. The model was then mirrored to fit the left-hand side perfectly.

Once accuracy was confirmed, we moved on to 3D printing using polyethylene — chosen for its flexibility and durability under repeated mounting and removal. The client requested two copies. While the second one was printing, the first was sanded and primed with a base coat. After finishing, the part was visually indistinguishable from the original. This primed sample was provided as a reference so the client could see exactly how the final product should look.

The finished pieces were shipped to the client, who handed them off to a professional painter for final coating in the vehicle’s OEM color. The entire process took about a week and resulted in fully functional and visually accurate replacements for the missing factory part.
