The money I raise helps fund trips to look for new items to design and share, which this is one of them. I recently had a trip to Penzance to look at Long Rock Depot and this is where this item first came to mind to add to my collection. I also spotted a water tank at the back of Exeter Train Care Depot and that’s what this design is roughly modelled on. Modern depots need water tanks for cleaning trains to filling internal water tanks on the train. This item is ideal for anyone modelling a modern depot.
This tank is a medium sized water tank from what I have seen and would hold about 16,000 litres of water. It is modelled in OO scale and has been designed to be printed on a Resin or FDM printer, except the access ladder that I would recommend printing on a resin printer. In OO scale this model is roughly 60mm long, 30mm wide and 35mm high. I have also created a FDM and Resin version of the Tank, the resin version will use alot less resin than if you used the FDM version on a resin printer (Its hollow underneath)
designed at OO gauge, 1/76.2 scale but can easily be scaled for other gauges.for HO gauge print at 87%, 1/87 Scale, for TT gauge print at 63.5% 1/120 Scale, for O gauge UK at 175%, 1/43.5 Scale, for O gauge International print at 158%, 1/48 Scale, for N gauge print at 51.49%, 1/148 Scale, (Caution: I have not printed this model in N gauge so I can’t guarantee its printability, not suited for FDM printing)
The example in the pictures was printed on a Bambu Labs A1 FDM Printer. As normal with my designs, there is a balance between accuracy and printability, hopefully not affecting the look of the model too much. The access ladder was printed on an AnyCubic Photon M3 resin printer.
For FDM printing I used a 0.2mm nozzle and a layer height of 0.08mm using PLA filament and using tree supports (not really suited for a 0.4mm nozzle). For Resin I printed with a layer height of 0.04mm using Water Washable Resin
