Statue of Kaaper 3d printable model

Kaaper, also referred to as Ka’aper or Sheikh el-Beled, was an ancient Egyptian scribe and priest who lived during the transition from the late 4th Dynasty to the early 5th Dynasty, approximately around 2500 BCE. Although his social standing was not among the highest, he gained significant recognition due to his exquisitely crafted wooden statue.

Career and Life
Details regarding Kaaper's life remain scarce. He held the titles of lector priest and army scribe to the King, with the latter possibly associated with military endeavors in the Southern Levant.

Discovery
Kaaper's mastaba, a type of flat-roofed tomb designated as Saqqara C8, was uncovered by Auguste Mariette in the Saqqara necropolis, situated just north of the Step Pyramid of Djoser. During the excavation, the Egyptian laborers discovered the statue and, struck by its remarkable realism, referred to it as Sheikh el-Beled, which translates to Headman of the village, likely due to its resemblance to a local elder.

Description
The statue, housed in the Cairo Egyptian Museum (CG 34), stands at 112 centimeters (3.67 feet) tall and is carved from sycamore wood, portraying the stout figure of Kaaper as he walks with a staff. The statue's round and serene face appears almost lifelike, enhanced by eyes crafted from rock crystal and small copper plates. It is frequently cited as a prime example of the exceptional craftsmanship and realism achieved during the late 4th Dynasty. Additionally, a wooden statue of a woman, believed to be Kaaper's wife, was also found in the same mastaba (CG 33).
