Percy Laddie Lucas was one of the Royal Air Force's most distinguished fighter pilots and leaders during the Second World War. Serving with distinction throughout the Battle of Britain and the Mediterranean campaign, he is perhaps best remembered for his leadership of No. 249 Squadron during the defence of Malta.
Leading from the front, Lucas helped maintain the fighting spirit of his squadron during one of the most challenging periods of the island's history. Flying the iconic Supermarine Spitfire, his courage, determination and leadership played a significant role in the RAF's success over the Mediterranean.
