Chios Silver Drachm (412-334 BCE): This coin, from the island of Chios off the Asiatic coast, features a sphinx (obverse) and a quadripartite incuse square with a magistrate's name (reverse). Initially under Persian rule in the archaic period, Chios fought for its independence in the early 5th century BCE and joined the Athenian-led Delian League.
