Quercus Glauca: Japanese Blue Oak Quercus Glauca is a tree in the beech family native to eastern and southern Asia. It is a small to medium sized broadleaf evergreen tree growing up to 60 ft in height. The leaves are a distinct purple-crimson upon new growth, soon turning to a glossy green. The flowers are catkins, and the fruits are acorns. It is planted as an ornamental tree in regions of Europe and North America, and the acorns are edible, being ground into flour or made into cereals. The roasted seeds can also be used as a coffee substitute.
