Otzi Bow

Otzi Bow 3D model

Description

The approximately 5300 year old 'Otzi the Iceman' was found in the Austrian Alps near the Italian border in 1991 and had various equipment with him, including a bow stave. Both the bow and stave are modelled using metric measurements taken of the actual stave.

For the grip material I used red deer hide which I thought was fitting as red deer meat was amongst his stomach content. The grip comprises 3 separate overlapping objects to simulate wrapping. The string uses the same wood textures as the bow, once again to coincide with the fact that his quiver contained some strings made of bark fibres. There are 15 bow bones and 5 string ones which are accurately weight painted and vertex grouped. Three 30fps animations are included, namely a draw (1s), a release (2ms) and a string vibration (1s).

Included are both high and low poly animated versions in fbx format, as well as static, unrigged versions for decoration/dropped enemy weapons in both fbx and obj format and the static versions include the stave, as does the .blend, which also features a rocky backdrop. Rock textures are 4k, wood textures are 3k and deer hide textures are 1k, various normal map options per material.
