The New 52 is the 2011 revamp and relaunch by DC Comics of its entire line of ongoing monthly superhero comic books. Following the conclusion of the Flashpoint crossover storyline, DC canceled all of its existing titles and debuted 52 new series in September 2011 with new first issues as a partial reboot. Among the renumbered series were Action Comics and Detective Comics, which had retained their original numbering since the 1930s. Superman was introduced in the pages of Action Comics by Grant Morrison and Rags Morales, and their vision for him was very much inspired by the Superman of 1938 who took down slumlords, and was vastly underpowered compared to the character he would become. Morrison and Morales brought Superman down to the street-level in a way that never really seemed possible before. This series drastically changes Superman's origin story. His early years as Superboy are eliminated from continuity. It's said that he recently developed powers, and they greatly increased over time. Clark Kent begins his career as Superman as an adult wearing a T-shirt and jeans with his cape. Said cape is shown to be made of indestructible Kryptonian fibers. The first time Superman wore the t-shirt and jeans was at the beginning of his superheroic career. He knew that he wanted to make a difference and help people but that he couldn't just wear his street clothes. He needed a look, something so people would know that he was their protector. So, what does someone with limited means do? Well, he gets a bunch of t-shirt printed up and wears his jeans and boots with those shirts. There's something about a guy in a t-shirt and jeans. It's an attitude, a readiness to do some hard work and get dirty. To get down in the mud and grease and grime and fix the problem. It's something that someone wearing a suit of any kind, even a costume, doesn't have.
