Perfect for use in games and simulation projects.
The Icarus Aerospace Tactical Air Vehicle (TAV) is a next-generation, optionally piloted, multi-role aircraft built as a clean-sheet design to deliver a wide spectrum of mission capabilities at a fraction of the cost of modern combat fighters. It is positioned as a force multiplier that can take on up to 90 percent of the tasks of a front-line fighter while requiring only about 15 percent of the acquisition and operating costs, giving operators a flexible and sustainable platform that bridges the gap between traditional manned aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned systems. The aircraft is engineered to be flown with a crew of two, operated remotely as a drone, or deployed fully autonomously, depending on the mission profile and operational environment. Its flexibility makes it suitable for armed overwatch, close air support, counter-insurgency, forward air control, special operations, combat search and rescue, medical evacuation, re-arm and re-supply, maritime patrol, coastal defense, anti-piracy, and anti-submarine warfare, as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance roles across multiple theaters.
With a maximum take-off weight of 21,000 pounds, the TAV measures approximately 52 feet in length with a wingspan of 51 feet and is powered by two 1,700 shaft horsepower turboprop engines. It can achieve a maximum operating speed of around 360 knots, sustain operations up to 36,000 feet, and maintain endurance of up to 9 hours with auxiliary internal fuel, yielding a range of approximately 2,000 nautical miles with reserves, extendable indefinitely through aerial refueling. The aircraft’s stall speed of about 70 knots and short takeoff and landing performance enable it to operate from rough, unprepared, and austere airstrips, including gravel runways, making it deployable in remote or denied environments. Certified for flight into known icing conditions and designed for all-weather operations, the TAV maintains reliability and survivability in diverse and demanding climates. The airframe is stressed to +8 and -4 Gs, ensuring resilience under combat maneuvering and demanding mission profiles.
TAV carries up to 8,000 pounds of ordnance and mission payload across 11 external hardpoints. Configurable armament options include forward-firing cannons, belly-mounted gun turrets of up to 30 mm, precision-guided bombs and rockets, conventional unguided munitions, infrared-guided air-to-air missiles, anti-ship rockets, sonobuoys, and lightweight torpedoes, depending on mission requirements. Its integrated avionics suite combines advanced, fused mission systems with optional 360-degree active electronically scanned array radar, retractable forward- and belly-mounted FLIR and EO/IR sensor turrets, and networked communications to deliver situational awareness and targeting precision. This combination of payload flexibility and advanced avionics allows the aircraft to perform as an effective battlefield partner, maritime defense asset, or intelligence node in joint-force operations.
The Tactical Air Vehicle program includes multiple variants to expand its mission set. The baseline TAV serves as the foundation for multi-role tactical deployment. The WASP variant is optimized for militarized applications, focusing on armed overwatch, persistent combat presence, ISR, and anti-submarine warfare. The BRANTA version extends the platform into high-altitude, long-endurance operations, suitable for intelligence and reconnaissance roles, and can be flown manned or unmanned. Each member of the family benefits from the same rugged design philosophy, cost efficiency, and adaptability, ensuring that operators can tailor the platform to specific operational needs without investing in entirely separate fleets.
In summary, the Icarus Aerospace Tactical Air Vehicle represents a flexible, survivable, and economical solution for modern military and paramilitary forces facing diverse mission demands. Its combination of endurance, payload capacity, multi-role adaptability, advanced sensor integration, austere field performance, and optionally piloted capability establishes it as a disruptive alternative to expensive front-line fighters and specialized aircraft, offering persistent presence and broad utility at a fraction of the cost.
