DESCRIPTION

The Citroën RE-2, developed in the 1970s, was an experimental light helicopter designed by Citroën to explore the possibility of entering the aviation industry. Although the project never reached series production, it represented an ambitious attempt by the French automaker to apply its engineering expertise to helicopter design.

The RE-2 featured a compact, streamlined fuselage, a conventional tail rotor, and an innovative twin-rotor powerplant arrangement. Designed around a Wankel engine driving two rotors through a sophisticated transmission system, the helicopter aimed to combine low weight, good performance, and ease of operation.

Only a single prototype was built, and the program was ultimately abandoned before the RE-2 could enter production. Nevertheless, the project remains a fascinating example of Citroën’s engineering ambitions beyond the automotive world, and one of the company’s most unusual experimental projects.
