Lockheed L-188 Electra HP American Airlines 3D model
The Lockheed Electra's were designed in the mid 1950s and first flew in 1957. They first entered service in 1959 with several airlines in the US.
They served larger airlines until the mid 1970s when they were sold to regional carriers, charter airlines and cargo freight companies. These aircraft carried 66 as originally designed but over the years increased their capacity to 99 passengers. They were economical to operate and a good safety record. Powered by four Allison Turboprops turning 13 foot diameter propellers, these were the fastest turboprop airliners ever produced and flown. They could routinely beat jet airliners times between certain routes.
