3D model descriptionDesigned by HIDAKA.Practical, engineering-driven 3D printable designs from Japan.
Keep the things you use most often within easy reach.
PROBLEM
A desk organizer does not need to hold everything.
When working at a PC, there are a few items that are used repeatedly throughout the day.
Pens.Markers.Scissors.A ruler.Eye drops.Small tools.
If these frequently used items are scattered around the desk, you have to search for them, move other objects or reach to different places every time you need something.
Large organizers can store more, but they also take up more desk space.
The real problem is not how to store everything.
It is how to keep the things you actually use most often close at hand without occupying unnecessary space.
SOLUTION
The HIDAKA Compact Desktop Essentials Organizer brings frequently used desk items together in one compact container.
Instead of maximizing storage capacity, the design focuses on everyday accessibility.
Different storage areas accommodate different types and sizes of items while keeping the overall footprint compact.
The rear compartment holds larger or longer items.
A dedicated narrow slot provides a place for a ruler or other thin tools.
A round holder separates pens, markers or similar cylindrical items.
The front compartment provides quick access to smaller everyday items such as eye drops.
This organizer was originally designed for my own PC workspace.
The printed model shown in the photos has actually been used on my desk for more than two years.
It was not designed only as a 3D model.
It was designed to be used.

The basic idea is simple:

Keep the things you use frequently where you can reach them easily.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
More storage is not always better.
Increasing storage capacity usually increases the size of the organizer.
Instead, this design starts by selecting the items that are actually used frequently.
Frequently used items are kept close.
Less frequently used items can remain somewhere else.
This keeps the organizer compact while reducing unnecessary searching and movement during everyday work.
The design therefore focuses not only on storage, but on the relationship between frequency of use, location and accessibility.
REAL-WORLD USE
This design has already been used in an actual PC workspace for more than two years.
The photos show the real printed organizer currently in use.
The scratches and signs of use visible in the photos are part of its actual history.
For HIDAKA, real-world use is part of the design process.
