IPA Filter Funnel with Reservoir Free 3D print model

EDIT & WARNING: This method does not fully remove diluted resin from the IPA. It only removes visible particles. Apparently there is a lot of colorless resin left in the filtered IPA that may become a problem over time.

IPA (isopropyl alcohol) Filter Funnel with 3.5L Reservoir and 42mm Stem.For filtering contaminated IPA (isopropyl alcohol) when 3D printing with a SLA (resin) printers.

Printing

Designed to be printed with FDM (filament) 3D printers. No supports, brim or raft should be necessary for printing. Print with PLA or PETG, 3 perimeters, slow speeds, 15-25% infill.The reservoir needs to hold liquids. Make sure the printing process doesn't introduce gaps or holes that compromise this. Check the print for defects before using.

Assembly

• 12x M4x20 screws
• 12x M4 nuts
• 12x M4 washers
• 1x round 180mm filter paper Look for 180mm or 18cm laboratory filter paper. (Example link: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Gatuida-Quality-Filter-Paper-Laboratory/dp/B0D6Y63MHD )

1. (Optionally) apply glue stick around edges of the filter paper to avoid leaks during use.
2. Place filter paper between funnel and reservoir.
3. Poke 12 small holes through the paper for screws.
4. Fasten funnel, filter paper and reservoir together with m4 screws, tighten screws carefully.

Use

The funnel is designed to be used with 5L canisters that have 43mm openings.Use protective equipment such as gloves and masks to protect your skin and lungs from harmful chemicals.

1. Place the assembled funnel into an empty 5L canister and secure the canister from tipping over.The reservoir will be top heavy and heavier than the empty canister especially when filled with liquid.Make sure it doesn't tip over and spill all of the liquid.Liquid can still splash and spill while pouring so the environment is appropriate.
2. Pour a small amount of liquid into the reservoir and observe whether the filter works and there are no leaks.If everything is working as expected fill the reservoir and place the lid on top of it to avoid excessive evaporation.
3. Wait...Expect filtering process to take several hours.Initially the liquid will seep down quicker and the process will slow down as the filter paper gets more saturated with contaminants.

A single filter paper can be used only a few times until it's too saturated to be practical for further use.

When done filtering

Expect to see a thick layer of goop on top of the filter paper.

1. Disassemble the funnel.
2. Throw away the contaminated filter paper.
3. Clean the funnel and reservoir.
4. Re-assemble with a fresh sheet of filter paper for next time.
