In my childhood, I was a kid is fond of all kinds of science fiction. Those stories always bring different tremendous experience to me. There one concept haunting me at that time and just can go away, which is “Brain in a vat”. As a child at that time, this concept always let me question the nature of reality and wonder the significance of life. In this project, I like to bring this concept into 3D modeling by using other digital objects.

In addition, also found out mathematical art while browsing commercial websites. Different shapes generated by math sound interesting to me, so I decide to use the method of mathematical art to express the idea of the brain.

While doing research with mathematical art, I found out a useful tool called Grasshopper built in Rhino itself, so I did not have to do coding. This make this idea possible. However, the visual programming of Grasshopper is harder than I thought. The process became slow, and to understand all element to build my desired shape is a lot harder. In the end, I end up with tutorial site called Parametrichouse. I followed the basic tutorials in the site, but still cannot came up with algorithm that fulfill my need due to lack of mathematics knowledge, so I can only use some tutorials’ file and setting to make the shape of brain.
