This kind of cannon was invented and used by the British artillery. Then its technology was adopted by Americans in 19th century and later it was used during Mexican War and American Civil War.The cannon has a bucket at the front, which was filled with tar or grease during war, and it was used to lubricate inside of the barrel after every shot. Two chests are placed on a carrier called caisson or limber which was fastened to the tail of cannon. The whole cannon was pulled by four or six horses.
