A trebuchet is a type of medieval siege engine designed to hurl heavy projectiles over long distances to breach castle walls or demolish fortifications. Unlike tension-based catapults that rely on twisted ropes or wooden elasticity, a classic trebuchet operates on the principle of the lever and gravitational potential energy.

Operating Mechanism: It consists of a long, pivoting wooden beam mounted on a sturdy frame. A heavy counterweight sits on the shorter end of the beam, while the longer end holds a sling loaded with a payload. When the counterweight drops, it swings the long arm upward rapidly, whipping the sling to release the projectile at high velocity.

Payloads: Capable of launching massive stone boulders, incendiary pots, iron bolts, and even biological warfare materials (such as diseased carcasses) into besieged towns or fortresses.
