She is also one of the churches of the city center of Groningen parish of St. Martin. The church was designed by the architect PJH Cuypers, with contributions by his son Jos Cuypers. The church is built in neo-Gothic style from 1885 to 1887 and consecrated on May 25, 1887. The church was originally used as a parish church until 1970 St. Martin's Cathedral in Broerstraat was withdrawn from worship.
