CGTrader Analytics

Discussion started by vbagdonas

Hey, everyone, just wanted to let you know that we’ve just launched the new Analytics tool! It shows you data on searches, sales, available models and other useful information on the keyword level. It took us a while to aggregate 6 years worth of data from the marketplace, but we’re finally ready to open it to anyone with 5 or more models uploaded on CGTrader. You can read more about the tool here:

https://www.cgtrader.com/profile/analytics/about/

Be sure to watch the video! It shows you everything you need to know about the tool (direct link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDaRf5nmMY8)

There are some requirements for accessing the full functionality of the tool (e.g. upload more models and make small improvements that help your models rank better in search results). At Tier 1 you get the most basic keywords, and with each consecutive Tier you gain access to increasingly more in-depth information about the market (e.g. Tier 2 requires 10 models total and unlocks the Top 100 keywords on CGTrader, Tier 3 adds another 100 keywords, etc.).

We’ve also posted an intro to the Tier system on our blog:

https://www.cgtrader.com/blog/cgtrader-analytics-tier-system-get-to-the-top-with-help-at-every-step-of-the-way-2018-03

Let us know how you like the Analytics!

P.S. as we were playing around with the keyword search function, some funny searches popped up. For example, the keyword 'ship' is among the most popular keywords on CGTrader, but the most popular two-word search phrase with the word 'ship' was 'ship wreck', followed by 'ship Titanic' – customers clearly don't want their 3D ships to swim :D

Is that 12/6 months hostage agreement really necessary?
You just copied the most disgusting thing from Turbosquid and made it even worse.
You are gradually losing my sympathies.

You are always free to sell your models anywhere you want, that is not the same as the exclusive traps on Ts, here they just ask to let them stay on the website for a year in return for these extra services, during that time you can sell anywhere you want but just not delete your work here (that's a small price and you do not even need to pay it if you keep out of these extra services). I think its normal that if CGt invests in technology (they need to pay that upfront) to find ways to secure that by asking something upfront from the artist hoe want to use it?

Hmm, i can't see how it's worse or even close to turbosquid restrictions. Not only cgtrader doesn't requires any exclusivity, but it also gives access to full statistics right away (assuming you have more or less decent collection), whereas TS requires you to commit to exclusivity and to be very successfull seller to gain full access to their data. If you're half serious at selling your models, then cgtrader's conditions shouldn't bother you a single bit, IMHO.

CGT has money from Sellers selling their models. I don't understand why should they be asking anything for providing market statistics which should help sellers and so CGT to generate more money. It says something about a company which needs to imprison their sellers instead of motivating them to stay. Anyone who exchanges his freedom to do what he wants with HIS own models for some candies is not very wise. What if CGT drops royalties next month to 40%? What if you decide to join other exclusive marketplace? What if your next employee will not allow you to sell anything online. What if you just decide to leave CGT for any other reason? Also the way how it is executed is really not ok. There is only one button "Agree & Continue". Where is the "I disagree & Exit" button. How many people actually read this agreement? Probably not many..
IndieArt wrote
IndieArt
And how is it worse? TS has 12 + 1 month. CGT has 12 + 6 months.
IndieArt wrote
IndieArt
Especially after many people left TS recently is quite strange they sign "can't leave" agreement on other site.
iterateCGI wrote

Dropping royalty's that's really not gonna happen, joining somewhere exclusively would indeed be a problem so not use the service in that case, idem for the point regarding employees. Anyways, in light of Ts recent aggressive moves you can view this as subtle defense and smart counter move. Ts is out to completely lock people in, here there is a move to seduce you to be loyal to some degree but still be free to go somewhere ells although not exclusive. Again they just make you an offer, you do not need to take it right?

IndieArt, I can understand your concerns, but I assure you we will never drop our royalties to 40%. Our mission is to give designers best terms in the market. We ask our users to stick with us, because we want to give a competitive advantage to our community and to protect it from competitor's aggressive actions. By the way you don't need to wait 12 months, if you decide to go you can inform us after 6 months, therefore in total it will be only 12 months.

it works if i chose analytics from the menu in the upper right corner, where everything else is located. but if i then press the button "subcategories", and then again "categories", it fails, stating: "Sorry, no keywords found. Try changing group" . if i now refresh the page, it works again.

I have some Texturesets and sbsar files for Substance Designer and Substance Painter in my Product paige.
How should i increase the Formats? I mean, that are only sbsar files or png.
I could set it to textures, but this increase the Score only by 0.2 points.
And for sbsar files, i have no options. Others is not acceptet as as Format.

Any help would be nice

Hi there, you can increase your publishing score not only by adding new formats but also by working on the model's presentation: adding preview images, broadening the description, etc.

Hi. I have a Viking Shield Old: Images - 8 / Formats - 7 / Words - 41 / Tages - 15 / Score - 7.1 Cutout Metal Plate: Images - 7 / Formats - 0 / Words - 45 / Tages - 13 / Score - 4.1 Nearly the same, but i lost 3 points because i cant use Formats for Substance sbsar files. And there is only one file, and this is sbsar. No fbx, obj, blend or anything.

What is "to keep all uploaded Content available on CGTrader for licensing"?

zlesinskas wrote
zlesinskas
This condition means that you agree to not delete the models you currently have published on CGTrader for a certain time.

Hello,

The new analysis tool is very complete and very useful. The presentation is also very good and also works very well. Congratulations for a job well done, and thanks for thinking of us.

The "Model Improvements" section could be improved so that all the models could be accessed. I think the scoring of the models is very important and should have more weight in the searches. This would benefit us all, the artists would improve the products, motivated to have a good score and position of our models, customers would have more information and be more satisfied, avoiding surprises in the purchase and possible returns, and all this would give prestige to CGT . I believe that sales and customers would increase because the models, in addition to having quality, would be better presented. That's why I think it's important to be able to know the score of the models, and to be an important part of the equation.

Hi Eugenia, It's Zilvinas on behalf of CGTrader team. We are extremely happy you find the Analytics useful! Model presentation is definitely important and we recommend all of our designers to use Model Improvements section - it's open to everyone. Better presentation helps the buyers discover your models and influences their decision to purchase them. Let us know if you have any further thoughts on how we could improve the Analytics!

Uhm... It says I am not even tier 1 :D
Guys, you cannot set the score on 3d Printing according to number of formats available. Now I get why lately people are uploading 3dP files in .3ds and .max
As I only upload models for Printing on Cgtrader, I can't possible ever pass your so called quality tests. Unless I inflate the number of formats with fake, shovelware, useless copies with a different extension, but that's contrary to my principles

Hi Francesco, Zilvinas, CGTrader Product owner here. First of all, thanks a lot for your insight! I just wanted to clarify, that you can improve your models' publishing score by many factors, and the number of different formats is just one of those. The algorithm takes into account all the factors you see in Model Improvements section in the new Analytics. Making your Publishing Score better will not only help you access different Analytics tiers but will also help your models in terms of discoverability both in CGTrader and in Google. Also, the clients visiting your product pages will surely appreciate the additional information you provide. Trust me, the time investment will be worth it. I will drop you a line in the inbox on how you can achieve better score very soon. Let me know if I can help you with anything else!

I upload STL, OBJ, WRL and AMF formats for 3D print products. None of them are fake, although i admit that i wouldn't upload that much formats if not because of analytics score. Anyway, given enough preview images and description longer than 3 words, it is perfectly possible to achieve 7.0 score for 3D print models.
frabuondi wrote
frabuondi
Lemonade, it is possible and I think I will add WRL to file formats, thanks for the suggestion. However the problem is not to achieve 7.0, but to have an average on that score... Which means it will be more difficult for 3d Printing designers to be on par with regular models and that more effort-per-visibility is needed on our part. But thanks
LemonadeCG wrote
LemonadeCG
Yes, i agree with you, 3D print files has to be treated slightly differently by the analytics. As it stands now, it is very hard or even impossible to achieve 9+ score with 3D print models, which is not the case with regular products.
