DESCRIPTION

This is the Russian 85mm PG-7 (ПГ-7), a high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT), surface-to-surface, shoulder-launched, spin and fin stabilised rocket incorporating a Point Initiating Base Detonating (PIBD) with self-destruct (SD) fuzing system also made in various countries including Bulgaria and Iraq. The English-language term rocket-propelled grenade, though frequently encountered and reasonably descriptive, is a backronym for RPG (Ruchnoy Protivotankovyy Granatomyot, Hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher) and is not based on a literal translation. On firing, the flash from the percussion cap ignites a small gunpowder charge in the tail section spindle. This ignites the propellant strips surrounding the spindle, kicking the rocket out of the launcher and lighting the tracer. The acceleration is used to initiate the flight motor delay, which ignites the rocket motor after approximately 25m.On launch, the fuze arming sequence commences.
