There, he is chased by a group of samurai who work for the Joker. During his escape, Batman runs into Catwoman, who reveals that all the other Gotham City villains arrived there two years earlier (due to Batman being found in the outermost area affected by the Quake engine). He learns that all the top criminals have become feudal lords and that they find themselves battling each other to become emperors of the territory. To prevent the villains from changing history, Batman and Catwoman must reach the Quake engine at Arkham Castle (where the asylum previously stood). Batman discovers that Alfred Pennyworth is also in the past and has built a Batcave outside of Edo.
