Documentation (history)
Robert-Houdin is often described as the father of modern magic. Before his birth, illusionists performed at markets and fairs, but Robert-Houdin performed at theaters and private parties. He also preferred to wear formal clothes, like the ones worn by the public. Many current magicians see this choice as old-fashioned and prefer to wear casual clothing; Doug Henning was the first to rebel against this stereotype, with a more modern look created by himself.
