Saint Rafael Guízar y Valencia was a Mexican Catholic bishop born on April 26, 1878, in Cotija, Michoacán, Mexico. He dedicated his life to spreading Christianity, helping the poor, and protecting the faith during times of religious persecution in Mexico. Known for his humility, compassion, and fearless missionary work, he often traveled secretly to continue preaching when Catholic worship was restricted. He later became the Bishop of Veracruz and was deeply loved for caring for the sick, educating seminarians, and supporting people in poverty. Pope Benedict XVI canonized him as a saint on October 15, 2006, recognizing his lifelong devotion, charity, and strong spiritual leadership.
