Print a elegant and stylish Japanese Shoji style lantern with Kumiko Bishamon-kikkou style pattern.

This design combines three overlapping and endlessly repeating kikko patterns, based on a tortoise’s shell, and it is imbued with a wish for eternal prosperity.The name bishamon-kikko is used because it is the pattern of the armor of one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Buddhism, Bishamon (in Sanskrit, Vaisravana). Bishamon, a god of victory in battle, is commonly worshipped for his role in governing the safety of the home and prosperity in business.

Roughly 4by 7 it is perfect for desk or table top. The lantern can be assembled without glue for flexibility or glued for strength.

A variety of bases are provided, a blank one, LED tea light and candelabra bulb. The lantern is able to easily lit with an LED tea light without any base included if desired.

All large lanterns have the same sized panels so panels from multiple designs can be swapped.

Printing Tips

The lantern can be printed with a 0.3 layer height and 10% infill for speed.Generally an interesting surface pattern such as Hilbert Curve to the top surface or such adds a very nice touch to the external faces of the lantern.

It is important to note that the build plate side of the lantern is inside facing. If the details of the Kumiko have problems on the first layer that can be ignored as the are almost always corrected on subsequent layers and the top outer-facing layer ends up just fine.

The 'lantern_inner_box' is the size of the inside of the lantern. Print this model in vase mode with a translucent filament, such as a matte white, and it will create an insert that will slide into the lantern giving the effect of the paper. Makes for an easy way to give the lantern a very finished and striking look.

An entire lantern at 100% will be roughly 160 grams of filament.
