The Chiara lamp was originally designed in 1969 by Mario Bellini, an iconic Italian architect and designer. The original Chiara lamp is made of stainless steel sheet. Inside coated with opaque white synthetic film to diffuse illumination. Dark joint of TPU on the whole profile. You can resize and 3D print or cut on CNC. Enjoy!
For Display / Scale Model (3D Printing)
Scale down to fit your printer bed or cut in pieces (you can ask me for help).
Print as flat template parts in PLA or PETG.
After printing, heat-bend or assemble pieces with connectors/glue.
Recommended: Use reflective filament or post-process with chrome paint to simulate the aluminum effect on the outside.
For Realistic Foldable Build (Laser-cut or CNC)
Use the 2D template in SVG.
Use thin aluminum sheets (around 0.8–1 mm thick).
Laser-cut the pattern.
Use metal rollers to form the gentle curve.
Fold the tabs manually and rivet or bolt the joints (just like the original).
Folding Instructions Summary
Cut the metal sheet based on the accurate 2D template.
Roll the curved body into a cylindrical arc.
Mount the lamp housing inside — hidden near the base.
