I think I've done enough 70s music coasters for now, so it's time to move it forward a decade to the 80s. The fashions were terrible (shoulderpads and fluorescent socks..... shudder) and there was the ever present threat of the Cold War (which is kind of happening again now, let's be honest). And then there's the music. Although this was the decade where the poison spear of Stock, Aitken and Waterman plunged into the heart of the music industry and began its slow and painful death, it was a great decade for rock bands. Yes they may have had more hair than a poodle, and kind of looked like poodles too, but ohhh could they play. Guns n' Roses, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, and so many more.

If you speak to any guitarist born around the same time as me and ask them about their influences they'll pretty much all end up mentioning one name. Edward Van Halen, who popularised the two-handed tapping technique and generally made an awful lot of lesser guitarists pick up their axe, start weeping gently and reach for the petrol and match. Known for their wild stage shows (and even wilder parties), Van Halen are the image of 80s rock - fast, happy and loud enough to wake the dead. Oh how we miss it...

This latest music coaster is the logo of the band Van Halen, on a background symbolising Eddie's famous black and white striped Frankenstrat. Someone please tell EVH it may look simple but it's a headache to draw. It also has holes in the back for 3x5mm neodymium magnets (available separately in my store) so it can be retrofitted into a magnetic plaque or sign, or so it can be permanently mounted.
