The Nelson-class battleships, comprising HMS Nelson and HMS Rodney, were two of the Royal Navy's most distinctive capital ships, laid down in 1922 and commissioned in 1927–1928 under the constraints of the Washington Naval Treaty. Featuring an unconventional all-big-gun-forward layout, they mounted nine 16-inch guns in three triple turrets positioned ahead of the superstructure, maximizing armor protection for the magazines while allowing a sloped deck amidships for aircraft operations. Displacing 35,000 tons and capable of 23 knots, these heavily armored vessels served prominently in World War II, Rodney famously helping to sink the German battleship Bismarck in 1941.
At 1/144 scale the finished model will measure approximately 1500mm long x 225mm wide x 385mm tall from keel to top of mast.Illustrated assembly guide included, in PDF format.PDF “Nelson-Rodney Comparison” detailing the differences between the sister ships included to aid in constructing your desired vessel. Some DIY alterations may be required.3D files (STL format) were designed in CAD. All parts scaled to fit 220mm x 220mm bed, maximum part height 200mm to fit all standard size printers or larger. Some larger hull sections will need to be rotated 45 degrees in order to fit on a 220x220 bed.
NOTE: Simple STL’s of 4.7”, 40MM Bofors, MKVIII Pom-Pom and 20mm Oerlikon anti-0aircraft guns are included. At 1/144 scale they lack detail. I have not provided any instructions on placement or numbers of these weapons as the quantities of these guns varied over the course of WWII, see online resources listed in assembly guide for AAA gun deck placement.
