DESCRIPTION

I recently did a project to revamp my model railway club platform, the platform was looking dated and needed improving.

After watching Everard Junction's YouTube video on laying platforms I decided to design a modern platform edging coping stone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZg3gyui_PM&t=915s

To start with I designed a standard coping stone that would be ideal on a straight platform, but my club's layout station was built on a curve and a completely square coping stone would look a little odd when butted together. So I modified the coping stones ever so slightly to give them a slight taper for the inside and outside of a platform edge when used on a curve. In real life curved platforms wouldn't be on a 3rd or 4th radius curve and the curve radius would be a lot larger. The slight tamper is minimal and when you look at them you won't notice but they make the edging look better on the curve.

When I played the platform edging on the club's layout I created a tool to get the correct distance from the track, I have included this in the designs if you want to use it. Also, see my tool for marking the distance from the track to the platform edge for the curved track.

The platform edging coping stones are 2mm thick, this is slightly thicker than real life but makes them less prone to warping when printing and you will not tell once played.

This item has been designed at OO gauge, 1/76.2 scale. For HO Gauge print at 87%, 1/87 Scale,For O Gauge UK print at 175%, 1/43.5 scale,For O Gauge International print at 158%, 1/48 scale,For TT Gauge print at 63.5%, 1/120 scale, for N Gauge UK print at 51.5%, 1/148 Scale, (Caution: I have not test printed this in N gauge scale).

Examples in the pictures were printed on an AnyCubic Proton M3 3D resin printer.I recommend printing these on a 3D resin printer to get the best print definition. As normal with my designs, there is a balance between accuracy and printability, hopefully not affecting the look of the model too much.

I use AnyCubic Water Washable Resin for most of my items but use AnyCubic ABS Like Resin for anything that needs to be stronger and tougher.
