A Crawl Breaker remembers being soft the way you remember a wound that has long since healed. The flesh went first, traded away in stages, each cut a small act of worship. Now they are walls that advance. A Crawl Breaker plants itself where the line would otherwise break and the line does not break. It is a fortress that chose to leave its foundations, a living bulwark that carries a power field broad enough to swallow a whole squad behind it, or a cannon heavy enough to make a dedicated artillery piece redundant. Whatever the cohort lacks that day, the Crawl Breakers become it. Need a gun. Need a shield. Need something that does not retreat. They are the answer to all three.

Do not bring valuable technology near them. This is not advice about the battlefield. It is a warning about proximity. A Crawl Breaker registers a superior component the way a priest registers a relic left unguarded in a heretic's hands, and it will reach out with one of those long servo-limbs and take what it judges worthy. Your field generator. Your targeting array. The weapon you were rather attached to. It does not steal, in its own understanding. It liberates the machine from an inferior owner and grants it a place in something closer to perfection. You will not get it back. You will, at best, see it again, fused into a chassis that is rolling toward you.
