Platypus USB-Stick

Platypus USB-Stick 3D print model

Description

This is a two part platypus USB-Stick case for an Intenso Slim Line USB 3.0 stick. The cap is pressed into the hole in the body, and the actual usb-stick is encased in the beak of the platypus. Below the tail is a hole for a string for a e.g. a keychain. The design is quite robust, though not made for extremely tuff environments. The size of the platypus is LxWxH - 85x25x16,5 [mm] maximum. When I originally designed it, I didn't anticipate to once upload it, so I only have quite bad quality pictures out of videos I had roughly taken during prototyping.

To assemble, I recommend to first press in the parts of the USB-Stick in their corresponding halves. This can be quite hard by hand, so I used a small vice to apply pressure evenly. If it doesn't fit, you may enlarge the holes with a file, or heat them up with a hot air gun. If it's too lose, use a drop of glue to ensure the stick not falling out. Furthermore, the stick sticks out far enough to be normaly usable and does not interfere with the usability of it.

As a paint, I used acrylic colours that I spread as evenly as possible not with a brush, but an old check card to apply a thick coating, pushing it into the nooks and crannies. For the eyes, I used a white-out pen with an Edding (=German Sharpie). Be careful, not to get any paint into the USB-Stick!

Feel free to use different colour scemes!
